Crossing Boundaries

That button to the left, the one with the face in it, will take you to the Crossing Boundaries page of Clint Adam Smyth.

Smallish jpeg of Crossing Boundaries image 1This project is one involving the word responding to the image.

Clint makes the image and I respond. This first one he did was with Mo and Steve on an industrial site variously called the Saddleview Industrial Park, Dominion Bridge or Trail's End. Some "backstage" photographs can be seen here.

Interestingly enough, this photograph is taken outside the east wall of the building that houses Image Club, the Canadian font competitor that Adobe ate during its feeding frenzy in 1995. Now, when you call Adobe Support, your call gets routed to this anonymous industrial building in Calgary. Wacky, huh?

The building also housed Doug McRae Photography. He used to throw wild rent parties long before the term "rave" had been invented. This poem [link to be inserted after I find the poem] was written after a New Year's Eve party there at the end of 1995. That party actually was a rave, complete with lights, smoke and videogames broadcast onto the walls.

Performances

publicity shot - fred&charlesMy most recent performance was in the Big Secret Theatre at One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre's 11th Annual High Performance Rodeo as part of parole. Clicking on the logo to the left will take you to the Rabbit's site.

I performed with Richard Sixto on saxophone. The line-up ran Asia, Kaie Kellough with Chamith Sarajeewa, T.Crane, Charles Cousins, me with Rich and finally Eric van Iersel.

Our set list looked like this:

We actually performed Fat Half Moon before Ralph. The performance was videotaped and audiotaped, as well as photographed, so I hope to have more documentation up here later.

I personally was very pleased with the event, and am looking forward to working more with Richard.

Drunken Poets Society

I also meet every Monday night at the Ship and Anchor with my homeys in the Drunken Poets Society. We have been formally meeting since about the Summer of 1994. Before that we met informally for a couple of years, by accident more than anything. We tried a couple of other venues, but the loud, brash, smokey, dark ambiance of the Ship kept drawing us back. As a nonsmoker I find it kind of gets to me sometimes, but I put up with it for the summer months, when we get to sit on the patio.

Crash and burn home

This page made in complete silence except for the sound of my hard drive fan and an insufferable instrumental by Chet Atkins running through my head.

Page edited 97/01/24 to the sounds of Peter Himmelman's FromStrength to Strength, especially "Crushed" and "Woman with the Strength of 10,000 Men."

A few links repaired 97/01/28.
