| I came off the training wheels when I was 5. At 6 I graduated from a hard-tire cruiser to a pneumatic tire Italian flyer, which was more bike than I had ever ridden. I promptly taught myself some of the finer points of landing from a flying stop. And learned about how long scrapes take to heal. Ten years ago I bought my first mountain bike, with which I intimidated car drivers in Edinburgh. Last year I bought this beauty, a Gary Fisher Joshua X, which once again is more bicycle than I am. And I am regretfully learning that this adult body heals more slowly than that young one I used to have. |
