Conventional wisdom has it, in this cockeyed culture of ours, that you are what you drive.

Well, who am I to disagree with that? I have noticed, for instance, that nearly everyone driving a Camaro or a Corvette has a mustache. What's with that? Inquiring minds want to know. Check it out for yourself, though. I started paying attention in the eighties and in the last ten years I've only seen one Camaro driver without a mustache, and she must have borrowed the car from her boyfriend.

Anyway, back to "you are what you drive" etc.

I drive an In-Violet (a.k.a. Plum Crazy) 1966 Plymouth Valiant Signet Convertable. Not exactly a common vehicle, especially in the States where such a beast does not exist. Powered by a factory-optioned 273 V8 it gets me around all year, albeit at a not insignificant cost in gas. And of course, you have to dress warm in the Winter.
I also have a 1976 Triumph Bonneville T140V 5-speed 750cc motorcycle. With disk brakes front and back, it generally is off the road through the auspices of Lucas, Prince of Darkness. My friends gently rib me (sometimes not so gently) that maintenance is so high I pay $1 per mile to keep the bike on the road. Be that as it may, I love the pesky thing and wouldn't be without it, even if it doesn't run.

And then, finally, people power. Or in this case, pedal power. I bought a Norco Sasquatch in 1983 that I still have, and in 1996 I upgraded to a Gary Fisher Joshua X with full suspension. That was quite a jump, let me tell you, and the Joshua is still more of a bike than I am a cyclist.
